RE-ENTRY
Trying to get back into the swing of things after vacation.
We arrived back in New York at midnight on Tuesday after spending almost two weeks visiting my family and friends in the California Bay Area. It was a wonderful, much-needed trip, but re-entry has been tough. The last time we visited California, we drove, so the time change was gradual. This time I had to be at work first thing on Wednesday morning after flying home the previous night. I was not happy when my alarm went off! Today is Sunday, and even after five days back on East Coast time, the kids still have not woken up before noon, and I have been mainlining coffee every day like it’s my job.
When we pulled up to the house on Tuesday night, I stepped out of the car into what felt like knee-high grass. There has been so much rain here in New York that the lawn grows inches overnight, and the weeds are thriving. So this week, in addition to catching back up with work, I’ve also been mowing, pulling weeds, doing piles of laundry, and starting a deep clean of the house. Now that our trip is over, the countdown to the start of the school year is on. I have a million house and yard projects I want to tackle before then – we’ll see how many of them I actually get done.
I was going to take another pass from writing here this week, but I decided to just rip the band-aid off and at least share a few photos from our trip in an attempt to get back into my regular writing and posting routine.
Before I leave you with a few photos, I want to share a few things that have been making me happy these last few weeks:
I finally read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin while I was in California, and I could not put it down. Highly recommend.
My daughter convinced a bunch of our family members to join Letterboxd - are you there? If so, come follow me. Some movies I’ve watched lately and really loved: Project Hail Mary, Lion, My Old Ass.
We went to see the pro-shot of Hadestown at the movies with my family when we were in California. It was SO good.
I can’t do anything that takes too much brain power while I’m on a plane, but I need to keep my hands busy. In my touring days, I liked to knit – now I really enjoy these Paint by Sticker books. They are super relaxing!
And now for a few photos from California… these were all taken with my favorite digital camera for travel - the Fuji XT-30ii. Sadly, I lost another Contax TVS to a broken flex cable right at the start of my trip (on my first roll through it since purchasing), so I wasn’t able to take any film photos. This is the fourth film camera that’s died on me this year… super discouraging. Maybe the universe just wants me to shoot digital?

See you next week -
